Last Words -- I've used a recording of the final words from a speech by Martin Luther King, Jr., titled I've Been to the Mountaintop. He delivered this sermon on April 3, 1968, at Mason Temple (Church of God in Christ Headquarters) in Memphis, Tennessee.
He was assassinated the next day, April 4, 1968, at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis.

War Prayer III concludes my series on Mark Twain's War Prayer. Today we hear a collage identical in form to yesterday's piece. However, here the words and sounds have been twisted to reveal a dark truth lurking in the pastor's prayer. This is not a literal setting of Twain's words, only my own artistic reaction to them.
Now that the series is finished, I would to mention that Twain refused to publish this piece in his lifetime, saying, "I have told the whole truth in that, and only dead men can tell the truth in this world. It can be published after I am dead."
If you haven't taken time yet to read Twain's War Prayer, I recommend that you do. My uncle, who suggested this series, recommends the print version illustrated by John Groth. After a quick trip to the library, I wholeheartedly concur.

Recovering no.3 continues my exploration of sounds recovered from my hard drive. In addition to all of the wonderful noises, the recovery software actually pulled out little pieces of long deleted recordings. These are found scattered throughout the noise, much as you will here them today.

For Gl!tch (tar) I decided to get out the tar drum I'd bought for a hand drumming class and make some noise. After recording myself, I added another layer of sound by taking the original distorting it in various ways common in the glitch music aesthetic.

Recovering #1 is one of a series of pieces I intend to create using a particular set of sounds. While working on a project last year I accidentally deleted an entire folder of sound files that I needed. In a moment of panic I purchased a file recovery program and ran it on my hard-drive. In addition to the files that I needed, it somehow recovered 14GB of random sound files. Most of these are noises, probably from data that was originally part of some other file type. I've kept this fascinating collection and will use it to make many little pieces over the next year.
