Shuffled Bits is another experiment with algorithmic composition (which is a fancy way of describing the act of creating a program that in turn creates the music). I began by building some 8-bit loops in Cbasicore64 (a favorite of mine). I then fed these loops into MaxMSP and recorded the results. After a couple of tries, I ended up with today's minute. Enjoy.

There is no new 60-second piece for today. If there was this project would need to be called 60x366, which it's not.
Instead I am posting two other pieces today, each of which is built from earlier one-minute postings. The archives of 60x365 have become a kind of menu that I can use for collaborations and commissions. These pieces were each created for specific performances, using the 60x365 archives as a source for material.
First is a piece called Twine [listen]. I made it for dancer/choreographer Kristin Hapke using five earlier pieces: Simple Sin(e) 1, Simple Sin(e) 2, Stasis, Glass Canon, and Here, I'll Play It Again.
The second piece is called Creamy Pink Thrill [listen]. It started as Boop Boop Beep and evolved into a Gameboy performance piece.
Enjoy.

Riots is this week's danceaday.com collaboration with Boris Willis. He is dancing this week at 14th and U (in Washington DC) where the riots broke out after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.
Boris noted that "In my lifetime the street has exploded in racial tension and now has White people soliciting votes for to elect a Black president."
This week's sound is built from one small sample of a speech by King.

One Inch:1 is a remix of the Nine Inch Nails song The Great Destroyer. The band has released an authorized remix of their Year Zero album, which includes a bonus disc containing all of the individual studio tracks from the original album. Anyone who wants to can use these files to make their own NIN remixes. To honor this artistic generosity, I plan to make several one-minute remixes here. Enjoy.

Britneconomy -- Today on NPR they talked about this article that details the mini-economy that surrounds Britney Spears. I decided that I should try to get in on the action, so send any your spare Britney-Bucks this way :-)

For Gl!tch (tar) I decided to get out the tar drum I'd bought for a hand drumming class and make some noise. After recording myself, I added another layer of sound by taking the original distorting it in various ways common in the glitch music aesthetic.
