Last Break -- I wanted to use the amen break one more time this year. As you'll hear it's been filtered well past the point of recognition. Think of this as a sign of things to come...

Restless Night -- Today's piece is a drum-n-bass version of a Chopin Nocturne. Does this seem like familiar territory? Check out this Bach Invention that I reworked last summer.

Bulldan - Today is my brother Dan's birthday. As kids we didn't get along very well, something that's changed with age. One thing we did agree onwe both think the piano groove in Hey Bulldog rocks. (Apparently Propellerheads think so too...)

Happy birthday Dan!

btdt - some days it's difficult to make a new piece for this project; I knew it would be when I started. Sitting down to work, I often feel that It's All Been Done Before. Then I remember that it's not the idea, but the execution of an idea that's important, so I take an existing piece and add a drum track to it....

Invention 4 is my interpretation of Bach's Two-Part Invention no.4 in d minor. In school, we studied Bach's music quite a lot. Our focus was always on the harmonic and contrapuntal content of his music. These are important to be sure, but this approach omits one of my favorite aspects of Bach's musicits rhythmic elegance. His melodic lines are expertly constructed so that, when played properly, they can groove as hard as any music made today. My addition of the reworked drumbreakthe amen, againdoes not create a groove where none existed, it merely calls attention to what is already there.

Toss Me a Carrot was created from two samples: the amen break and Brian Wilson's Vega-Tables. It's an exercise in absurd contrasts.
